Day 16..........still no bed to sleep on-sigh
3 Girls and 4 Suitcases
As the title of this blog implies the bed status is not as hoped-boo hoo.
They did arrive at 10am but the first problem was that the Queen base would not go upstairs and I was told that I would need to call the store to ask for a split base replacement to be delivered. That didn't seem like too big a hiccup, except that I have no phone to call them but as Andrew was coming for dinner tonight, I knew that I could use his phone.
Jen and I excitedly ripped off the covering from her bed and were so disappointed when we sat on it and it made a huge amount of noise. It's got coil springs and it made noise every time we rolled over on it-ugh. So, I was afraid to unwrap the others in case they were the same and decided that because the store would be coming to collect the base, I was just going to return the 3 beds. The picture that came with the beds stated that you also needed a platform, which we hadn't ordered because online it wasn't shown and the bed set looked so much higher and fuller in the photo-as they do. As the cheaper platforms are very ugly it further fuelled my decision to return the whole kit and caboodle, whether that meant an-air-mattress-again-tonight-or-not.
Next episode involved me trekking out to the closest store, on the advice of a customer service guy to Bill. He said that I could see if there were any comparably priced beds to exchange ours for and if not, they'd deal with the returns. Half hr jaunt in the bus and subway to find that the google map instructions were not quite right (a first actually) and I eventually found Sears Home.
First lady at customer service was friendly and helpful and got someone from beds to show me what they had-didn't like any of the cheaper ones-dont like the coils they use-so I went back to customer service to be 'helped' by a girls who could not have been any less helpful. I do feel really sorry for people who are so obviously unhappy with their jobs and who will not make a single bit of effort to be friendly or helpful. I told her that the guy told Bill that the store would deal with the return and she just stated no they didn't and wouldn't unless I had the beds with me-as if! She said I'd have to phone them and I told her I didn't have a phone to which she shoved their phone towards me. I then told her that I didn't have the number to which she pulled the phone back, sighed, dialled a number and held out the receiver. All in silence. No, 'not a problem' or 'I can help you with that' Just a look of 'really!'
The girl on the phone was nice, slow but nice. I was probably put on hold 5 times and the call probably lasted 45 mins. She kept coming back and asking the same things and offering the same things.
I can offer you compensation if you keep the mattress?-It's not useable 'cause it's too noisy and compensation won't help my daughter sleep through that.
Would you like someone to come out and look at it to see if they can fix it?-I've been sleeping on an air-mattress for the last week and want a bed so please could you just pick them up for return so that I can go buy others and have them delivered asap.
You get the idea.
Each time I was put on hold I drew angels and lovehearts to keep me calm. The angels were holding signs such as 'Peace' 'Love' Patience' 'Faith'.......I giggled to the lady who was complaining to them, next to me, about what I was drawing and she said that I was better than her 'cause she'd be drawing daggers-lol.
Eventually, I got a date for them picking up the beds-next Friday-a whole week-the day Bill arrives-sigh. She has put a note on the delivery saying that I will not be in till 2pm on the 12-6 time slot. We will see how that goes and I'll no doubt let you know.
What next you ask? Well, after a quick pitstop home to tell the girls that I was still alive, I headed to Ikea and bought the beds that we were originally going to buy before Bill found thes ones online. And the lesson is.............always try a bed before you buy it.
My new beds arrive tomorrow morning between 9 and 1pm and I'll let you know tomorrow how the building of them goes.
Sitting on the bus back from Ikea it dawned on me just how lucky I am. I complained about and am returning beds that thousands of refugees would feel in heaven to be sleeping upon.
And at the moment, that's all I am saying on that.
Off to bed soon. Got to have a wee chat with my boy before he heads home. We had a lovely dinner and movie together and for that I am also grateful. The bed-thin is really quite insignificant to be bothered by.
Sending much love,
Lxxxx
